Sherman Layne Sr.

DEERFIELD - Sherman M. Layne, 91, passed away September 12, 2019 at Courtyard in Salem with family by his side.

Born September 13, 1928 in Virginia to James and Lottie Layne, he retired from Royal China and had a farm in Deerfield for 50 years. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He is survived by children, Sherm (Townia) Layne, Pat (Denny) Elrod, Alice (Mike) Douth, Jim (Suzanne) Layne, Sherrie Jakubisn, Marilyn Kuntzman and John Layne; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Mason) Layne; son, Robert; granddaughter, Yvonne and son-in-law, Bill Jakubisn.

The family would like to thank all the staff who cared for Sherman at Courtyard, Dr. Singh, Hospice of the Valley and Alliance Hospital.
