Otha G. Carpenter, a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away on December 23, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on April 11, 1934, in Gasaway, West Virginia, Otha's life was a tapestry woven with threads of adventure, family, and friendship.
While no life is without its losses, Otha was surrounded by love, which shone brightly through his relationships. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warmth, cherished by his daughter, Pam Little-John; his son, Mark Carpenter, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Carpenter; his beloved sister, Linda; as well as six adoring grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The joy he took in family gatherings and simple pleasures, such as Sunday morning breakfasts with his son, is a testament to the bond he nurtured with his loved ones.
Otha’s passions were as varied as they were profound. He had an enduring love for hunting, a pastime that not only brought him closer to nature but also provided countless opportunities for shared memories with family and friends. Otha enjoyed collecting coins, playing horseshoes, and cornhole, showing his playful spirit and competitive edge. His appreciation for gardening reflected his nurturing side, allowing him to revel in the fruits of his labor. Moreover, his enthusiasm for riding motorcycles was a thrilling escape, embodying the free spirit that defined much of his life.
His playful heart was evident in the weekends spent with friends and family, creating bonds and memories that would last a lifetime. Otha's devotion to his hunting dogs also underscored his love for the outdoors, fostering connections that went beyond mere companionship.
Otha was predeceased by many loved ones who shaped his life, including his father, William Carpenter; his mother, Mabel (Case) Carpenter; his beloved ex-wife, Elsie (Biles) Price; and his best friend, Gene Lanhan. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Barb, Juanita, Grace, Ellen, Neely, Perry, Shelby, Gene, Floyd, and Hayward. Each of these relationships left an undeniable mark on Otha, contributing to the man he became.
A visitation in Otha's honor will be held on December 30, 2024, at Dean's Funeral Home in Sebring, Ohio, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a graveside memorial service at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit, Ohio, commencing at 2 p.m. and concluding at 3 p.m.
