Nelson R Whitehead

On Sunday July 30th, Nelson R. Whitehead, age 79, passed away at his Deerfield home surrounded by his family. Nelson was born March 18th, 1944 in Salem, Ohio. Nelson was preceded in death by his mother. Edith (Eels) Whitehead, sister Judith (Whitehead) Hill, and brother William Ernest. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathleen (Sell), his three children; Crystal (Arley) Yorty, Kris Whitehead, and Kevin (Michelle) Whitehead; grandchildren; Samantha (Dustin) Ware, Justyn Whitehead, Arley Yorty, Jaycob Whitehead, Caleb Yorty, and Kylee Whitehead. Also, filling his life with joy were many nieces and nephews.

Nelson graduated from Leetonia High School in 1962. After high school, he served in the United States Navy for 4 years. He was a machinist by trade, but kept other jobs such as painting, security, roofing and insulation with his father-in-law, Lloyd Sell. He always did what he needed to provide for his family.

Nelson enjoyed working on his home and doing outdoor projects- he was the ultimate handyman! Nelson liked to garden and kept a beautiful rose garden. He looked forward to his monthly class breakfast with friends. Most of all, Nelson's favorite pastime was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 6th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. followed with a eulogy being read by pastor Arley Yorty at Dean’s Funeral Home, 256 W Ohio Ave, Sebring, Ohio.
