We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother Nancy Mae Agnew, age 81, of Copeland Oaks in Sebring, OH on March 25, 2025. Nancy was born February 13, 1944, in Salem, OH. to the late John and Margaret Hilling Chester.
Nancy had a great love of water. She grew up at Berlin Lake and married the love of her life, Donald Paul Agnew on the bank of the cove on June 1, 1963. After returning from California where their children were born, she returned to Berlin Lake to raise them so they could graduate from Southeast High School as she had in 1962. Upon retiring as a teacher’s assistant from Robert Bycroft School in Columbiana, they moved to “The Cottage” at Guilford Lake and spent their winters in Venice, Florida.
Throughout her life, Nancy embraced her roles with grace and passion. She had an unwavering dedication to her family, which was undoubtedly her greatest treasure. Nancy’s spirit was reflected in her many hobbies, including writing, cultivating beautiful gardens filled with vibrant flowers, and painting and doing crafts that she shared with her family and friends. Her gatherings with her lifelong friends “The Southeast Girls” were always filled with laughter and nostalgia, reinforcing the bonds forged in her formative years.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her son, Don (Sheila) Agnew of Hixson, Tennessee, and daughter, Peggijo (Terry) Leitzel of North Benton who carries forth her legacy of love and support. The warmth of her hugs and 10,000 kisses will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Seleste Wallace of Tennessee, Mark Leitzel of Berlin Center, Cameron Wallace of Pittsburgh, John Leitzel (Lissa) of Rootstown as well as her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dakota Span of Tennessee. Nancy's passing is also met with sorrow by several nieces and nephews who have been touched by her love, kindness, and generosity.
In addition to her loving parents, she was predeceased by her siblings: Flo (Tom) Bendetta, John (Connie) Chester, and Jack Chester (Patricia and Helen).
The family wants to thank Copeland Oaks and Crandall Medical Center of Sebring. Their staff went above and beyond to give Nancy the finest and loving care each of us so deserve.
Cremation has already taken place and per her request there will be no public services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her request for donations can be made to Copeland Oaks Employee Fund at 800 S. 15th Street, Sebring, OH 44672
