Leroy G. Osberg transitioned to his heavenly home early Wednesday morning from Hospice Care at Salem Regional Medical Center. Mr. Osberg was born in Struthers, Ohio, on January 31, 1921, to the late Louis and Harriette (Jones) Osberg. He was a graduate of Rayen High School and retired as a certified machinist from the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company after thirty years of service. Though he never received a college degree, he always pursued his sense of curiosity and his life-long love of learning. This was often fulfilled through travel as he and his wife visited all 48 contiguous states and Canada. Like many of his generation, he enlisted in the Army during WWII. He served in the European theater shortly after D-Day and was awarded a Purple Heart, two Oak Leaf Clusters, and various other medals during his time there. His military service and what that war accomplished were very dear to his heart. In addition to his parents, Mr. Osberg was preceded in death by the love of his life Joyce M. (Copham) Osberg, whom he married April 11, 1947, by his grandchildren Sara Osberg and Brian Hartzell, as well as his siblings Edward, Verne, Robert, and Mildred. He is survived by his children Susan (George) Hartzell and Charles (Tenley) Osberg , his grandchildren Erin (Scot) Stoffer, Lisa Hartzell, and Doug (Katie Glasser) Osberg, and his great-granddaughter Myla. A celebration of Mr. Osberg's long, wonderful life will be held Saturday December 17, at 11 AM at East Goshen Friends Church in Beloit, Ohio. Friends and family may visit from 10 - 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church in his memory. Arrangements were entrusted to Dean's Funeral Home.
