Karl C. Held Jr., AKA K.C., 68, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born Nov. 17th, 1949, in Alliance, son of the late Karl C. Sr. and Helen Baker Held. Karl was a graduate of Alliance High School and Kent State University in Akron.
He worked as a reporter for Alliance Review starting in 1973, later became an editor for the Sebring Times, and eventually was named managing editor for The Review. He retired after 43 years in June 2016. He was well known in Sebring and Alliance and liked by all.
Karl was a loving father to his daughter, Karla. He was her hero, was always there for her and her many activities.
He enjoyed covering the sporting events of McKinley High School, followed the Mount Union football games, was in Sebring Rotary Club, Beloit Ruritan Club, and was active in many other events in Sebring and Beloit. He was an extreme dog lover and lost Molly his favorite a few years ago.
Survivors include his daughter, Karla (Mike) Rita of Arizona; former wife of 24 1/2 years, Darlene Dimick Held of Alliance; brother, James (Carol) Held of Florida; stepchildren, Doug (Tammy) Hoffman of Texas, Darren Hoffman of Alliance, Heidi (Charles) Milburn of Louisville, David Hoffman of Louisville; nephew, Timothy J. Held (Chris) of Alliance; 11 grandchildren, Brady, Ethan and Kamden Rita, Beth and Kelly Hoffman, Chelsie Littleton Hoffman, Andrew, Jacob and Ashley Milburn, Dakota and Devanne Hoffman; and two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Ayden Torres.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. with the funeral following at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at Dean’s Funeral Home, 256 W. Ohio Ave., Sebring, Ohio 44672. The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Reich. Friends may register online at www.deansfuneralhome.com.
