John Short

John William Short, age 78 of Rich Hill passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

John was born January 18, 1945 to John Henry and Alice Short in Amoret, MO where he grew up with his 9 siblings.  He graduated from Miami High School in 1963.  He then joined the Army where he served in the artillery division.  When discharged from the Army, John returned home and worked in the construction field until his retirement.  On September 1st 1986, John married his loving wife Donna and they resided in Rich Hill until his death.  John had a few hobbies including hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and football (especially the Chiefs).  He enjoyed attending stock car races and working on his nephews race car.  But his favorite hobby was anything involving his grandkids, especially joking with and teasing them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, David Short, Jess Lee Short, and Ed Short, and one sister, Alice Faye Thornton.

John is survived by his wife Donna of the home, 4 daughters, Beverly Baze and Andrea Short of Rich Hill; Ashley Brown of Nevada; and Christina Riggs of Waverly; 12 grandkids: Kearston (Bailey), Jaritt, Kaiden, Greyson, Genevieve, Jasmine, Jonathon, Jasper, Jakob, Aliya, Tyler, and Blake, 3 great-grandkids, Waylon, Camden, and Nickolas, plus 2 more on the way, 2 brothers Jim Short (Cheryl), and Jerry Short, 3 sisters, Betty Irwin, Sharon Scrogham (Elbert), and Connie Cox, many nieces and nephews and lots of friends he considered family.

Graveside service is Saturday, May 20th at 1 pm at the Benjamin Cemetery, Amoret.  Services are under the direction of the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill.

The family suggests contributions be made to the McGennis Youth Center where John loved to fish.
