Dorothy Kirby

Dorothy May Kirby, 89, passed away July 15, 2017 in Alliance, OH. She was born in Columbiana County on August 15, 1927, the daughter of Frank and Rebecca Birtalan Gold. She married Charles Kirby who preceded her in death. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law Charles and Cindy Kirby of Naples, FL and two grandsons, Jason Kirby of Alliance with whom she resided, and Justin Kirby of Naples, FL. as well as four great grandchildren in FL. She started working at the Polka Dot restaurant in Alliance when she was 14 years old and later worked at Thompson's Corners and the Strand Theater on Main Street. During the war, she worked at Alliance Ware making torpedo noses and shell casings. She started working at Heggy's in Alliance when she was 29 years old and retired in 2001 after 45 years at the age of 74. She was a beloved fixture at the stores on Main Street and later on State Street. Her work ethic, loyalty, honesty and ever-present smile will always be remembered.
