Beverly Cole

September 8, 1943 — January 22, 2018

Kent: Beverly [Ham] Cole died January 22. She was born at Wauseon Ohio on September 8, 1943; graduated from Wauseon High School and Defiance College and began a Masters of Education program at Kent State. She was a teacher in Painesville and Ravenna but most of her service to students was the 27 years at Tallmadge High School where she was a learning disabilities teacher, retiring in 2002. She served outside the classroom as well. She volunteered at Townhall II for some years in the early seventies, and was active in the early days of the Kent Environmental Council in recycling efforts. She served the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent in various capacities over the years; was an early female member of the Kent Men's Garden Club and was a member of the renamed Garden Club of Kent. She is survived by her husband of 52 plus years Larry and brother Thomas [Patricia] Ham of Highland, Michigan; Daughters Elissa [Paul] Ellis of Plumerville, Arkansas and Erin [Amanda] Cole of Kent, Ohio; grand adults Cierra Cole of Plumerville, Arkansas and Kieran Cole of Clarksville, Arkansas; Ayanna Cole of Kent, Ohio; Erika Cole of Ravenna, Ohio and Austin Turner of Greenville, Ohio. She is also survived by 5 great grand children; Elliot, Dylan Rose, and Zona Belle of Ravenna, Ohio; Marlee of Plumerville, Arkansas and Nylah of Clarksville, Arkansas. She enjoyed gardening, antiquing and, particularly, the portions of Summers spent with daughters and grandchildren at the Ham family cottage in Northern Ontario. Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of life gathering will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent, 228 Gougler Ave. on February 24 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association [70 West Streetsboro St., Suite 201, Hudson, OH 44236] or the Unitarian Universalist Church of Kent [228 Gougler Ave, Kent, OH 44240] building fund is preferred Special thanks and appreciation go to her caring aide Sandra and to Carolyn, Heather, Rachael, Markita, Shakanda and the many others of the Robinson/UH Portage Medical Hospice group.
